menstrual cups

menstrual cups

i haven’t made the switch yet, but i’m thinking about it - i’m a menstrual cup noob at the moment!

i’m a tampon user, so the thought of putting something in my vagina doesn’t worry me. removal of it does though - is it easy, once you have the hang of it?

what brands do you suggest? i’d like to spend a bit more money and get a known brand to start off with, but once im more experienced, are the cheaper no-name brands on ebay ok to use?! any advice?!

thank you!

I brought one a few years ago, tried it once and freaked out because of the power of the suction trying to get it out. I was a lot less experienced with my own body and it scared me so I never used it again.

I’ve had kids since and have recently decided to try again but I cannot for the life of me work out how to seal it. I’ve tried everything and I’ve googled all the tips. Just can’t do it unless I am in the shower.

So I’ll be following this post to get any more tips.

I’ve brought Ebay cheapies which I thought is why I couldn’t deal, so I brought a juju I think it’s called and still the same issue.

I will add though, the reason I want to start using them instead is because I have such heavy periods now, that I want have to double up pads at night and change tampons every hour.
Also, I never realised how dry and uncomfortable tampons are. The times I have managed to seal the cup, it’s so nice t
Not having a string lol

I tried one for a few cycles but personally I don't think they are as great as people make them out to be!
So don't get too down if you can't get the hang of them (not everyone can) Good luck though :)

I loved mine. Don’t have a period anymore. I’m pretty lame with tampons and took to the cup easier. I had the juju cup.

I have a Juju cup and think it is great. I do however, use a panty liner as back up on the 1st day or 2 of my period as they are the heaviest days and the cup can leak occasionally. It can take a little getting used to. Putting it in squeeze the cup into a C shape and insert it then release and position around the cervix, it can take a little wriggling about to get it into place, but once it is there it should feel comfortable or so you can barely notice it is there. When taking it out squeeze gently on one or two sides to break the seal and pull down gently. If it still feels suctioned just reposition and try again or try to tilt the cup and squeeze. Dont pull on the little stick. I hope that makes sense.

I made the change a few years ago and would never go back to using pads or tampons. I find them alot more clean especially in summer. Yes it took awhile to work out how to use them properly but once you have that under control it's great. I use the lunette

I have the diva cup and am going to try a different brand, I've had it for about 6months now but still have to use pads on the first 3 heavy days, I have extremely heavy periods and I do have to empty it several times a day for the heavy days. Excellent for the last 3-4 days though. I'm not entirely sold on cups, I rarely used tampons but can't see myself switching entirely to the cup with the heavy period issue, have considered cloth pads but very unsure lol

Have also read that juju and lunette are softer than diva cup so I think I will try one of them.

Love love love my ruby cup, they do a deal when you buy 2 so I got one of each size. Some time is can’t get one size to sit comfortably but the other will. It takes a bit of getting use to but once you know your body and the angle you need the cup to sit it’s easy and so so comfortable. I have a low cervix so the ruby cups are nice and short, I just snipped the tail short.

My only tips would be use your muscles to put it in, bare down insert and lift, makes it easier to get in the right spot. Also bare down to remove, pinch the base so it breaks suction and then pull. If you just try to pull it out it will be painful. Lastly don’t give up! It’s worth the effort to get it right.

Love my lunette. It's such a game changer. I wouldn't put a china cheapie in my body. There's a bit of a knack to get in and out but once u master it it's easy. To get it out I find it easier to bear down (kind like your doing a poo) and then grab it. I had to cut off part of the stem cuz it was too long. Watch videos on how to insert and remove that's my best advice. The put a cup in it ladies are great for information.
