19 month old biting

19 month old is starting to bite. He will just randomly go and bite another child. When you ask him what happen he will tell you he bit and who he bit. Any suggestions how to control it?
Hoping its just a stage he is going through, but how do I redirect this behaviour?
thank you

The only way I found if breaking this phase was shadowing my son when he was around other children. So basically I stayed very close, watched like a hawk and swooped in if I observed him about to bite.

When mine went through this stage I had so many people tell me to bite them back, I tell you from experience that is not only cruel bit it also doesn't work.
I found a firm NO, followed by removing them from the area (at home we had a porta cot for this, I'd put them in for a few minutes whilst ignoring them, when I'd get them out I'd simply say 'no biting'). If we we're out and about it was straight in the stroller with the same technique.
Try not to react when he does it too, a surprised laugh, yell or 'ouch' makes it a game.

It takes serious perserverence and a consistent consequence but he'll learn soon enough, once they start becoming more capable to communicate with words etc, this phase tends to pass.

Good luck!

My son used to always bite and I could never work out the best way to deal. I’d often flinch or react which made him think it was a funny game.

One day he got a hold of my chin and bit down for dear life and god it hurt, the more I pulled him, the harder he bit. (He was probably 12-14 months old) and when I finally got him off, I sat there sobbing for ages because it hurt so badly...

He has never bitten again lol
