Hi ladies. I saw the post about a lovely lady asking for home economics classes and it got me thinking. Noone teaches us this stuff we have to figure it all out on our own. So what have you figured out that works for you that could possibly work out for someone else. Mine is I have a washing roster. I wash certain things on certain days so say washing towels every Tuesdays bed sheets every Thursdays and clothes inbetween. With 4 kids I have found this bloody great for keeping on top of it. What are your tips, tricks, and even cheats?

I suppose I was lucky to grow up in a house where we were expected to participate in housework.
We were responsible for our own washing from about 10, the only washing I didn't do for myself was towels and by high school you were responsible for choosing a meal to cook (so you had to let mum know the ingredients needed before shopping day).
By high school we had one room each to be responsible for other than our bedroom.
It gave me a really good understanding that a) mums are not slaves and b)how to get stuff done!
I've basically installed the same ethos into our home. Each bedroom has a dirty clothes basket, that basket is the same size as a load of washing. My son knows that washing basket is full he needs to do his washing.
Pack way toys before bedtime routine starts. It's a great routine and stops things from getting out of hand.
Build skills into your child's routine. Eg from as young as possible teach your child to put dirty clothes in the basket straight away and hang towels up after bedtime. Build habits early, then they no longer thinknof it as a chore it's a routine.
Wash, fold, put away clothes and do a general tidy daily so you don't feel overwhelmed if you have an allocated "cleaning" day.
