My toddler has turned into a nightmare

Hi IM's my 17 month old has has been a dream since 6 months in regards to sleep and eating but she recently has turned into a total nightmare. She has meltdowns over everything and wakes in the night. Even for her daytime nap she'll have a meltdown when I put her in her room.... it results in my going in and patting her bum to sleep or sitting by her cot till she is asleep (something we've never had to do).

Basically I'm feeling exhausted... I adore her but I don't liker her very much at the moment. A few people have said it's the 18 month sleep regression. Can anyone shed some light on how long this lasts??? And how you dealt with it???

All kids go through ups and downs, I think if you've had it easier it's especially harder to deal with, but just resign yourself to it being a phase and soon enough it too will pass.
Step up the self care so you're not so exhausted and cranky, it will help.

I feel you!

Both my kids were amazing eaters and sleepers from early on but they both went through the phase around 18mths when they needed to be held to sleep and fed differently.
It's hard when you've been used to them being easy.

Both kids it lasted about a month and they went back to how they were. I think it's a separation anxiety / realizing their independence around this age.

I did what they needed i.e. Pat to sleep , feed them instead of them feeding themselves.
With both it took around a month and they slowly went back to how they had been

As hard as it is to have your routine thrown and suddenly be sleep deprived I would recommend just going with it for now and see what happens

Good luck mama

Yep I definitely think when you’ve had it easy, any tough time is just the worst ever.

I’ve always had good sleepers and if they ever happen to have one off night, I basically think the world is ending.

As for your little one, I think it is the age. I have a 16 month old and she has been the exact same the past week or two, absolute terror. Keep persisting, it will pass.
