I'm the happiest I've been for a long time and have a great circle of friends. I do however, have a toddler, a baby, a 'challenging' relationship with my mother and I'm a stay at home mum with a husband who works long hours. I talk a lot with my friends but feel I might benefit from a regular download with someone impartial. Last time I sought psychological assistance I was in a really bad space and found it hard to find someone I connected with. Did you find someone you felt easy to talk to or do you just have to open up and hope for the best?
Would a psychologist or similar be a waste of time/money or worth every penny?
Does anyone see a therapist just for a download?

I live in some challenging circumstances that won't change soon. I see a psychologist about every 6 weeks. I've been seeing her around two years. Initially for severe anxiety etc but now that things have calmed down I still have things to tweak, get top-ups and generally decompress, discuss strategies etc.
it's fantastic. She doesn't have an emotional attachment to the situation so she can be impartial and help me come to the best plan for me.
I don't feel close with her, but she is definitely someone I feel I can talk to.
Find a good one and you'll feel fabulous!
You could go monthly or have a few weekly sessions, just depends on what's happening in your life.
I see mine before and after I go see family, as they trigger a lot of my shit.
I usually find going once a week for 3 or 4 weeks is a great tune up for me.
I know I can be intense, and my life can be stressful as a carer, it's relentless, and I don't want to wear out my welcome with friends, plus I
don't get emotional support from my family, so I pay someone to listen to me, and the added bonus is, they help sort through the shit. Even if I've had a big cry, if I walk out feeling better, then they're the right therapist for me.
Don't be afraid to open up, let it all out, all the shit that clogs up your brain, tell them, that's their job. Get your money's worth!
