Hi all, this mum needs some help I am at a loss!!! My 5 year old just started school and over the last few weeks won't go to the toilet for number 2's at school or at before and after school care, no issues at home. He soiled his pants on Monday and I got a call from the school saying I had to come pick him up today(Thursday) because it happened again.
When asked why this is happening considering he has been toilet trained for quite a while, his response is I don't like flushing. He has confirmed he feels the need to use the bath room and it seems to be a not wanting to stop what he is doing thing and then he can't hold it anymore.
I am worried for him mainly because I remember from school kids aren't friends with a child that keeps doing that, I don't want him to not have friends. I don't believe it to be medical and he has no behavioural issues. Someone please shed some light I'm at my wits end with this & I feel like the school are assuming I sent him there not toilet Trained.
Help. Please!

My daughter went through this last year (same age as your son, first year of school), my god do I feel your frustration! She was eventually diagnosed with encopresis, that's basically means they hold their bowels until they become so constipated they lose some sensation in their bottoms which leads to leaking poo (sorry TMI).
My advice would be to see a gp, it's very unlikely there's a physical problem but it doesn't hurt to rule it out. I'd almost guarantee there's some kind of anxiety causing his aversion to using the school loos, that was the case for my daughter. We had to gently encourage her that there was nothing to be afraid of etc. I'm not gonna lie, it got worse before it got better but a year on and it's all just a painful memory. She's still a bit funny about toilets but we're past the accident stage so Woohoo lol.
Like I said, see your gp and discuss all of this with them. They'll be able to offer some strategies to help get past it.
