What age was your child when they were able to sit through a movie at the cinemas?

2 and a half for my oldest. Although I recently took my 2.5 year old to a movie and we walked out before it was done. She was way too restless. Depends on the child.

My son happily sat through his first movie at 3, he probably could have gone earlier but I don't think they really enjoy/appreciate it until around 3.
My 2 girls were 4 and 5

As a single mum, If I wanted to see a movie I used to take my child to the 'crying sessions'. Basically those sessions set aside for parents with babies. I could see the movie, my child could practice 'behaving' but if it didn't go to plan it didn't disrupt a quiet cinema. I would take some snacks, small quiet toys etc.
It wasn't until around 4/5 that he could mostly sit still long enough for a movie and stay engaged in a movie. Even then I still had to gently remind him that movies are for sitting still.

Kids TV shows for toddlers are really short, because that's how long a toddlers attention span usually is.

Can I just say thank you for taking your child to the crying sessions. I have been in a few movies (not crying sessions) where the movies are like MA and people bring their babies who cry the whole time...really frustrating especially when other people have paid to watch a movie...not to hear a baby cry the whole time.

Yes! That's so frustrating. I went to see Harry Potter years ago. There was a mum and kid behind me, the child was about 2, she cried, jumped around and kicked my chair, talked and complained she was scared the whole 2 hours!

i mostly took my son to crying sessions that were kids movies anyway.

The ratings are there for a reason and my son doesn't need to have a massive screen of scary shit to see!

I first took my child to the cinema when they were 2. I was unsure of how they would go so made sure I sat somewhere where we could make a quick exit if they became restless. They were fine, they only time they became fidgety was when they decided they didn't like the seat they were in and wanted to snuggle on my lap instead

It really depends on the child and their attention span. We took my stepdaughter when she was two but she was a very calm child and would often sit and watch movies, my son however had a lot shorter attention span and wouldn't sit still for long he was 3 or so before we took him and then it had to be something he would be really interested in.
