Lying on your Resume

Has anyone lied on their resume in order to get a job and been successful? I have been out of the workforce for nearly a decade and cannot even get an interview. A friend mentioned listing a business who has closed down to make it look like I have some recent experience. Thoughts?

Personally I think it's questionable to flat out lie on your résumé, making things you have done sound better is one thing but putting down somewhere you didn't actually work at is risky, imagine if you were caught out. You'd look like a bit of a twit to put it nicely.

I totally get your position though, I've been a sahm for 10 years, I basically get laughed out of interviews. You'll find some work eventually, it's not worth compromising your integrity.

Good luck!

Nope and wouldn't consider it. What if they know someone who knows someone etc. and it comes back to bite you? Or if you can't demonstrate all that you "learnt" at that job and perform up to it. A lot has changed in 10 years and if you cannot show you're up to date they'll realise quick smart.

I know my workplace does extensive checks and calls referrals. It'd be a major giveaway if you don't list anyone from that workplace as a referee and they'll ask you about it. Just because it closed doesn't mean the people aren't able to be contacted (your manager, a colleague etc.).

Definitely not. That sort of lie has ways of coming back to get you. Local businesses are usually involved in networking groups so it's highly likely that who ever yob apply for work with knows people within the closed business..
Plus you could be asked questions in an interview about that business. Who you worked under, systems used etc. you would very easily get caught out!

I would not do it. I know someone that lied on their resume about a qualification that they had and they were charged with fraud. I know that you are only going to list a company that has closed but you are telling someone that you have had x amount of experience in a role when you have not, essentially that is fraud.
