My 13 yo son woke with painful testicals
Is this a normal part of puberty for a boy or should I be concerned and have him checked out? He is happy and open to talk with me about everything but I'm not sure how he would feel about a doctor touching him down there.
Should I be concerned or is it normal ?

I think it never hurts to get it checked out. I personally worked rather get something uncomfortable checked and know it's okay than let it go and it's a problem
Better off getting it checked out if pain persists as he may have a testicular torsion.. Witch is serious. It may be nothing but better safe than sorry
Just take him to the doctor. It could be something serious like a twisted testicle.
Can he feel his testicles down in his scrotum? If he can't, then get to the doc ASAP.
It's probably nothing sinister but it'd be good to get him into the habbit of getting things checked out if he's unsure. So many people avoid Doctors rather than have examinations that are a bit awkward (pap smears, prostate checks and sexual health check ups just to name a few). See a doctor, a few minutes of embarrassment is better than the alternative!
