Teenage Acne, what have other mums done to help their kids out. We have an appointment this week with a doctor as we have been spending loads on Dermalogica products for months now. Just wondering what success stories others may have. Feel so bad for my child would do absolutely anything to help rid them of it TIA!

Proactive was what we found success with.
Benzac is fantastic and also organic applecider vinegar (with mother) mix with a little water as a cleanser twice a Day. We had a dr appointment for my stepdaughter but in the meantime started using these two things her skin cleared up so much in a couple of days we ended up cancelling the dr appointmen, her skin has been fantastic for months now just using this.
I've been a sufferer my whole teenage and adult life, I've tried it all! Every cream, prescribed, on tv, spent thousands, changed my diet, been prescribed every skin pill(which I'm sure your doctor will recommend such as doxycycline used to treat infections on the inside), prescribed creams etc, apple cider vinegar, silicon tablets, vitamins, and I'm a beauty therapist so I learnt a lot of about th skin and how to try heal it properly, I do always recommend a good skin care and I like dermalogica, try not to use the supermarket stuff.. and also just left it and tried to see if it would improve on it own.. and it never ever budged! when I was 16 I went on a course of roaccuntane.. and whilst there's a lot of bad side affects that can come along it was without a doubt the best thing I ever ever did!!!!!!!
I'm now 25 and after having acne free skin for soooo many years it started coming back and once again I tried it all, but I'm back on a course of it and omg I am 100% happier!!!!
Not everyone would consider it or might have bad reviews on it but coming from someone who's been there done that, I couldn't recommend it enough!!!! And the dermatologist looked after me the entire time to make sure it was right for me the whole way through..
Proactive was good at first but it still didn't work, I've tried it ALL!!!
It wasn't really an issue for me so much as a teenager but hit me hard in my 20's, like you I tried EVERYTHING and spent so much money on it. The medications I took (different pills and antibiotics etc) did work but they caused other side effects for me so I couldn't take them, I never tried roaccutane because it was advised that I shouldn't since I couldn't tolerate anything else.
A lot of the things I tired worked but only temporarily so I was always back to square one, mine also would flare up once the weather started getting colder and I'd battle it all through winter but through the summer it was much better.
The best thing that I have tried that has worked for the longest (my skin isn't perfect but I only get the odd pimple now not constant throbbing horrible acne on face, chest and back!) is a combination of seeing a naturopath, watching my diet (low sugar and processed foods) and I have found one pill that I can tolerate which is Yaz. I don't take it all the time I will just take it through the winter months and then can come off it for the rest of the year.
If you haven't already ask the doctor to take a blood test and do a hormone profile, I took those results to my naturopath who will go through it in depth with you and can provide supplements to help if anything is out of balance.
The pill as a starter, I imagine the doctor will suggest the same. Proactiv worked but was so damn drying unfortunately.
Put my daughter on the pill at 14 specifically to clear up her acne that was all over her face and back, worked beautifully. My 12 year old son is now experiencing breakouts and he uses a tea tree foaming cleanser, seem to work ok
If you're after something less harmful, look into Essential Oils. I've just started using Doterra essential oils and they're of a very high standard. There's a different oil for all occasions/illness/condition
If your child is a female then take her to a good Naturopath. Look at evening Primrose oil and zinc as a starting point
