Small child
We recently moved towns and have taken my 3y8mth old son to the doctor due to a cough. The doctor was alarmed by his size. He weighs 11.3kgs.
In our old town we saw a paediatrician for the same reason but no action was taken as tests done showed that nothing was wrong and he was indeed 'just small'.
The new doctor will request reports and results from the old doctor and might send us to another paediatrician. She also mentioned 'bone growth hormone injections'-
Anyone dealt with a scenario simimlar to this?

Maybe he is just small? Does he eat well? A little girl I know is 2 next month and she weighs 8 kilos..every child is different.. my 2.5 yr old weighs 15.4 kilos
Yes he eats well. Meat, eggs, rice, pasta, bread and loves dairy (milk, cheese, custard, yoghurt, cream by the spoon full). Will eat fruit -apples, oranges, bananas, grapes, strawberries but only raw carrot out of vegies
Wow! My 17 month old weighs 12kgs. And his older brother was also 12kgs at 18 months.
Your son must be so petite! (My just turned 4 year old is 21kgs).
Are all the kids in your/partners family small? If so, then I wouldn't be too worried.
But something may be wrong if it's not genetics.
My just turned 7y daughter is 22kg.
We all appear to be of 'normal' size. Childrens dad was a smaller sized child tho until 15years.
Thanks for your reply!

My 8 yr old twin boys are tiny too, are you able to get your medical records sent to the new doctor?
Yes new doctor has requested medical records from old doctor
They don't usually just look at the weight, it is about tracking the progress. I can't remember my son's weight at that age, he has always been pretty light, but they didn't worry because his graph showed steady gain over time. If it helps, I do remember when he was in prep (5), he was about 20 kgs and the teacher even commented on photo day how light he was compared to the other kids as she had to lift them all up onto the stand. He is 9 now and all of a sudden he is eating like a horse, starting to fill out (just), still quite bony though lol
Hi. Thanks for your reply. Yes people always comment on how little he is.
He eats really well and quite alot.
He is very much in proportion. (Short/light and small head) His doesn't seem bony.
My mother gut feeling says there is nothing wrong and he is just small but would hate for there to be something and i 'missed it'.
Thanks again. No doubt they'll be towering over us in no time!!!
Mine didn't eat well, very fussy and is really bony (shoulders, ribs), so you are doing better than me! My little boy isn't "little" height wise, probably slightly shorter than average, nothing noticeable so never got the little comments, but certainly got comments on how skinny he is if he took histop off.. If he's in proportion, it sounds good but at least the doctor is checking things out.
My 5 (almost 6) year old daughter weighs 18kg, I have never had a dr or health nurse say anything about her weight, she just small and as you know we are all built different, I have a niece who is 2 months younger than my daughter and she's already 32kg.
Let the Dr request reports and results, it's better having a Dr that cares than one that doesn't but I would say to not over think things most likely he's just small.
