Toddlers won't sleep anywhere but own cots

My twin toddies are 15 months and since I can remember they are creatures of comfort.
Because I've been a single parent the whole of their life, I've had to do things in turns or not at all so issues have arised from that...
they won't sleep anywhere but their cots (not even my bed) they will sometimes sleep in the car if exhausted.

They both attend daycare and their sleeps are always horrible. Very disturbed, or not at all and have been since they attended care at 5 months old.
They are moving rooms from the nursery and now have to sleep on floor beds which proves to be difficult apparently. Which is NO surprise... how do I deal with them not sleeping anywhere but their own cots and will this impact the cot to bed transition at home later down the track? Is there something I can do to get them sleeping in other places? We can't go on holidays or have to rush home for bedtime every time we are out because they won't sleep anywhere else!

Maybe give them something that they can associate with sleep? Like a special pillow or bear? That way, when you want them to sleep, give them their bear/pillow.
