Retained placenta

Retained placenta

Hi IM's I'm after some advice from either mums with previous experiences or even if there are any doulas/midwives amongst us.

I'm 27 and a mum of two and am now expecting number 3. With first two deliveries (both spontaneous vaginal) I had a retained placenta.

First child DS was horrendous and resulted in 16 hour labor, an epidural, forceps and an episiotomy. The placenta wasn't coming away to the OBGyn pulled on the cord until it came free which caused some haemorrhaging.

Second child DD was a pretty straight forward natural birth with a 7 hour labor and with a managed 3rd stage labour. After not even 10 minutes after she was born I was being taken away to theatre for an emergency D&C to remove the placenta. I was gone from my newborn for 2 hours ?.

With this third child I am wanting to delay cord clamping and I am wondering if this could also help with the retained placenta issues I have. I don't know much about why the placenta doesn't come away even after the injection but thought that maybe someone out there could give some insight on if this could help or not. I know they encourage feeding straight away to help the uterus to contract but I didn't even get the chance with DD before I had been whisked away.

Thank you in advance
