Storage of photos

I am wondering what you all do for storage of your photos? Everyone hears the horror stories of losing precious pics when a phone ends up in a toilet, is lost etc etc.

On having my first bub last yr we sold our SLR camera & decided against buying another smaller one as we have our phones on us all the time & they have decent cameras.

I have an iPhone, hubby has a Samsung. I am hesitant to use iCloud as I don't know much about it & worry about hackers gaining access to my pics. I can upload pics to my computer but then they need sorting (delete random screen shots etc.) & I don't want to clog up my computer. I have an external hard drive I could use?

I do print pics every few months of my bub & add to his album so at least I would have those if I were to lose them off my phone.

What do you do for photo storage? Any advice re iCloud??

Many thanks xx

I used to store them on my laptop but ended up with not enough room. So now i store them on a flash drive. I buy kay tags and write on the pannel what photos or dates are on the flash drive and then store them in a plastic container.

I upload them to the computer, then transfer to a 1T hard drive.
Then with the extra special photos I couldn't live without, I put them on a thumb drive and it's attached to my car/house keys. Because in a fire etc, you go straight for the keys. So if something did happen (especially if I wasn't home), I'd always have those extra special pictures.

I put my favourite ones in an album on Facebook (with limited access on which of my friends can see it) and back my phone up to my laptop everytime it tells me I'm out of space.
Something happened to my laptop recently and all my storage albums got deleted. It cost a bit to restore them, and the restoration brought back every single item deleted - including those annoying little icons from games or applications that had been removed. I still haven't had the time to sort through them all and removed the thousands of selfies of my sons forehead and other odd images, haha.
I also have my wedding photos backed up to a USB, and many family photos stored on a memory card, as well as being backed up to the laptop, with several on Facebook. Those photos are too precious to risk losing if something happens to either my phone or laptop.

I am a professional photo organiser and genealogist and would suggest that you always have 3 copies. First of all, always use the Cloud ie. Google Photos or Dropbox are my recommendations. Depending how many photos you have you may get away with using the free version but you can subscribe for more space. There is more chance that your computer will be hacked then the Cloud and by saving them on the cloud you will never have to worry about them if your home burns down or your computer crashes. You can access them from any device. Keep a copy of them on an external drive and on your computer if you have one. I do a Family Yearbook (photo book) at the end of each year so that we have physical photos to flick through. If you have pre-digital physical photos, find the time to scan them and get them on the cloud as well because if something does happen to your home you will always have your photos.
