My son has been referrered to lady cilento to have surgery to remove a lump. As if this isn't stressful...just called bupa to check on my hospital cover only to be told we have to wait a year before I can use it. I was unable to afford it for the last few years but July last year I had money to get it. So stressed now as I can't afford any extra bills. Does anyone know how much a stay at hospital
Can cost.

Why don't you go public and it won't cost anything? All my sons operations have been public and haven't paid a cent.
I thought it was a public hospital?
Lady Cilento is public so it shouldn't cost you a think as it is covered by Medicare.
If you've been referred to a public hospital you might be given two options.
1. Be a fully public patient. No big deal, no costs.
2. Private patient in a public hospital and then you will have to pay some of the costs. But you get to CHOOSE what you can afford.
If your sons problem is urgent they will bump him up the queue as a public patient either way. If it's not urgent you will just have to wait for any potential surgery.
This really is nothing to worry about. I know that's very easy for me to say, but I have a son with chronic medical conditions so I'm well familiar with the system and have two very close relatives who are medical specialists in hospitals.
