toilet training poos 4 yr old will not do them in toilet

Hi
Have a 4 year old son who will start Kindergarten next week. I can not get him to poo in the toilet. I have tried everything to get him to go....reward stickers, taking him when he usually goes, let him watch his brother go so he know it is not scary.
I put his night nappy on and he will happily go in that and then when he calls me up he always said sorry I pooed in my nappy mummy, I also ask him why he did not call out to me to take him to toilet.
I am worried about what will happen at school next week.....he happily wees and takes himself for that part just not poos....should I be worried or just leave him for a bit and see if he picks up the other kids doing it at school.

Kindergarten, as in school?
I wouldn't be sending him yet if he's only 4 and not toileting independently yet! So unfair for him and his teacher

Kindergarten starts here in the year they turn 5.... he will wait until that night nappy goes on every night and never fails to go then, he does this even when he is at home.
will say he is a very determined little boy and he has always done things when he is ready, not when you are ready to do them.

Have you tried using the graduated pull-up/nappy method?

Basically it follows these steps but you can add as ma y steps as you like or need.

1. Is only allowed to wear the nappy in a set space (usually in the toilet/bathroom).
2. Gets closer to the toilet when pooing wearing nappy.
3. Is allowed to wear nappy while sitting on toilet.
4. Cuts hole in nappy so poo falls through
5. Get rid of nappy.

It takes a while to master each step but with perreverance I've seen many kids get there with this method.

I am literally going through the same thing with my son, he is also 4 and is also in kindy. Hes happy to pee in the toilet has been for over 12 months now, but wont poo. Like you, i have tried everything under the sun. Kindy isnt concerned as he doesn't have any accidents and uses the toilet like all the other kids, he just waits till his bedtime pull up to do his poo. I have tried taking away the bedtime pull up and it was a disaster, he held it in and ended up getting really sick, even after taking him to the doctor and getting medication to help him go, he still held on. Im now in the waiting game, to see if/when he will just decide to go himself...as my mum keeps telling me u can take a horse to water but u can't make it drink, same with kids, u can take ur kids to the toilet but u can't make them use it

He's starting kindy young both of my boys went at 5 turning 6 in NSW and they were toilet trained by then and mentally ready I think boys need extra time, just because they can start at 4 Turning 5 it doesn't mean they are ready. It's not healthy for him to be holding it in until the night time see your doctor.

In Wa kindy is 4-5yr
Pre primary 5-6yrs
Year 1 6-7yrs
Year 2 7-8 years.

Kindy isnt compulsory but all other grades are. If you send your child late then they are going to be older then all the other kids. We have a june 30 cut off for grades eg. If they turn 4 before june 30 they go to kindy this year if they turn 4 after june 30 they do kindy next year.

Why are we sending our kids to school so early?

It'll happen when it happens. My boys were over 5 when completely toilet trained and when they started school

I could have wrote this.
My son is 4 next week. He started kindy on wednesday but here they only do 3hrs a day 5 days a week. I know most other schools do like 3 full days a week. Well like yours my son will do wees no problem but not poos. I have tried everything. I even asked the pediatrician who said its normal and to try sitting him on tbe toilet after meals but mine still wouldnt go. Yesterday he did his first poo in the toilet but then 2 others in his pants. I to was thinking that if i sent him to school he would pick it up of other children. Most kids will wait until they get home to do a poo anyway. So i sent him. I talked to his teachers assistant just to let her know and she said he will be fine. I thought that if ge did have accidents at school well then i would just keep him home but so far so good.
