16 mth old temper

My master 16 months has started to head butt everything including tiles when he can't get his own way - is this 'normal' behaviour?

Hi there! My son is almost 17 months and he has been doing the same thing. It's very hard for them to express their needs and wants so this is how they vent their frustrations. Distraction works for us, I just pick him up and show him something out the window, or on tv or grab a book and start pointing pictures out. He might cry for a while but at least the head butting isn't happening.

My 18 month old boy has a foul little temper, too. We've started the 'disciplining' just now, as we felt he was too young to understand before. We tell him a firm 'no' when he does the head butting. And I've even resorted to a little smack when he hits or head butts his sisters. He needs to learn that if he hurts someone, he'll get hurt back. I think it's completely normal though. I've heard so many mothers talk about the head butting at this age - particularly boys. I would just move him away from whatever he's doing it to. Say no. Only 'discipline' if he's hurting someone.

My son is 3.5 and did the same thing (only on the very odd occasion he still does). It was his temper tantrums and he would always have bruises on his head. I slowly got him out of it by keeping him calm by rubbing his head before a tantrum (ignoring it wasnt doing anything) and it stopped it eventually. If its coupled with other unusal behaviour you can worry then but only that I would just say u have a very strong willed boy
