I have just been offered a really amazing job-one that rarely comes up. My partner lost his job late last year and has not been able to find a new one since so this job of mine is big news. We live in a town with a really low employment rate so finding work is hard. Now I think I'm pregnant and don't know what to do. I wont qualify for maternity leave so I have the choice of 2 weeks off then back to work or surrender the position when I have the baby. I'm feeling so lost right now. I am on the pill so its not like I didn't try and prevent this happening either.
Been confirmed I definitely am pregnant

You take the job, it's a no brainer. You might be pregnant, not definite. If it turns out you are pregnant you keep working and cross that bridge when it comes closer to the end of the pregnancy.
One of you needs to be working and turning down a job in that environment is not an option.
If it turns out you are pregnant and you need to return to work after baby is born then dad can be SAHD. Lots of men are doing a fantastic job of being the main carer. It might not be how you imagined it, but living off unemployment long term just isn't an option.
But hopefully your partner gets a job before you have the baby.
There is no question about me taking the job or not I'm just worried they'll sack me before my trial ends due to pregnancy and don't know how I'll leave a newborn to return to work. I want the job I just wish I could qualify for maternity leave ?
Well no point worrying about things you have no control over. You will still be better off working even if it was just a few months.
Maybe refer to something like fairwork if it comes to they sack you before your trial ends. Say if you're just finding out you're pregnant now and the trial goes like 3 months? Could you keep it secret until after then? My sister in law just went back to work leaving a 4 month old (youngest of 4) with the father (SAHD). She didn't get paid maternity leave (I don't think she did anyway) but they had the centrelink leave. (Not sure if you would get that either). I think you just have to see how this works out, if it's a great job it might be worth it.
Not sure if anyone will read this but in order to get paid leave from centrelink you need to work at your job for 10 months prior to the birth which I won't and you need to work for the company for a year before they have to let you take leave.
I read it. And that is true. I would be worried about how i feel too. But what about this..
Take the job. Its 8 months so you should be able to accumulate a few weeks of holidays and with centerlink you should be able to get a few more weeks i know dads can get paid paternity leave (3 weeks ) so all up you could have almost 7 or so weeks off. I know it would be hard but going back to work may possibly be your only option?
