It may have been asked before, but what special birthday traditions do you have for your children? I'd really love some ideas on how I can make my kids days really special.

Simple, but I just blow up dozens and dozens of balloons and fill the floor with them when they walk out. Also dangle streamers from their bedroom door so they're walking through those, too. Messy but they love it. And they always get a special cake. I'm a cake decorator, though, so I spend the day before making some ridiculous thing that took me 12 hours.. .haha. But they're generally more excited about that than presents.
My boy wakes me up by jumping on my bed to open his presents. He gets to choose a special birthday cereal (coco pops, fruit loops, something we'd never normally allow!). Then if we aren't having a party on the day we will have a special dinner chosen by birthday boy.
We like to keep things simple but special.
