Hi mum's and dads
I am happily married and have 2 kids, 12 and 9.
My husband and I are both wanting a seachange, wanting to 'see what's out there in life' - hubby's idea is to take 12 months out of our normal lives, rent out our house for the year, and head to China with the kids and teach English - as our source of income and to help people. Whilst I find the unknown a bit scary, I think it would be exciting and a great learning experience for us all. We don't speak Chinese, but could help people learn our language. Part of me feels hesitant to take the kids out of school for a year, but then I think the experience would be good for them and their own learning too.
Has anyone had any experience with this, or can offer any advice? Which companies to go through? Do the companies take families, or just individuals? Can we teach English without knowing any Chinese? Are there other countries that are in shortage of what we want to offer? Thanks!

The salary for teaching english is not enough to support a family. Its enough for a single to live in a share house and go out on weekends and thats about it.
I would suggest just traveling instead. Rent a house in a village somewhere and then go and volunteer your time & language skills to work around the village.
Yup I taught English overseas when I was young and single, just had enough to live off.
