For financial reasons im needing to return to work, but centrelink have told me not to because I've been getting parenting payment based on me earning $0 for this financial year & hubby on $65,000.
The centrelink lady did a mock look up on the computer & said just in childcare rebate straight away I would have a debt just over $1000.
If I go back to work now mid way though the financial year & with mine & hubbys combined income exceeding $100,000 I'm not entitled to an payment so would have to repay what I got. But being mid year I wouldn't get full yearly pay so combined would be $85-$90,000
I thought if I declared my full yearly gross ($50,000) income that it would work out as I'd be getting no CL payments but in reality will only earn half what I declare as I'm only working half the financial year. But CL told me it doesn't work like that.
Has anyone returned to work when they initially told CL they weren't going to?

Just update your combined income estimate on the Centrelink site - I'm certain that this happens a lot with Centrelink and people's incomes changing. They keep 15% of your payments back for adjustments after tax time (to help prevent overpayments) and once you update your income estimates you should see an instant change in what you are paid.
