Going crazy

I have suffered depression, anxiety and bipolar disorder my entire life. I have done everything, medication, therapy, exercise and diet with no result. Has anyone ever had a family member or friend go to a phyciatric hospital for an extended stay with any results? How did they admit themselves to the hospital? I am to good at faking it now and need more than an hr session to tell the truth on how I really feel. I need help.

I have some experience with psyche wards and in all honesty, they aren't particularly helpful unless you are acutely manic, a danger to yourself or others or refusing meds. It's very depressing, like ground hog day, busy psyches that hardly get the time to see their patients, it isn't this amazing place with intensive therapy. If you are stable, I think you are better off with visits to a psyche and a psychologist. Psych for the meds, psychologist for the talking. However, this is in my only limited experience of one mental health unit, maybe they are not all the same? Also, once you are in, it can be hard to get out, you may have to do some fast talking, just be aware. Have you looked into ECT? It has been a life saver to someone close to me, she has not been committed for 3 years. I also knew a bipolar person who was getting ECT and it stabilised her, but there are memory issues with it too unfortunately.

Having said that, if you really want to give it a go, present at your local hospital. If you are suicidal they will likely take you, sometimes it can take them a few days to get you a bed on the psych ward so you can be stuck in the emergency department for a while. They also often have pods around the hospital like in the surgical or Otho departments because they don't have enough beds in mental health. Again, just my experience at my local hospital with someone close to me.

My son has a psych disorder. As the other person has said unless you are a danger to yourself or others don't go into a public psychiatric facility. They are under funded and getting in even when you do have suicidal thoughts etc is very difficult. They are treating extremely challenging cases. A friend just got out of a psych ward and he came home traumatised.
You won't get to talk to anyone for long chats and they can be very scary, confronting places.
When was the last time you were reviewed by a psychiatrist? Tell your psychologist what you are thinking. There are reasons appointments are one hour in length. If you need to vent, start journaling.

I wish there was an answer i know someone in similar situation. They had a breakdown and i felt in danger and took him to doctors who wanted me to sit and wait for an appointment if a doctor could squeeze it in. After repeating it was urgent and being treated like shit by reception a doctor eventually overheard and offered to go outside and speak to him, the dr then called 000 who sent police who then called an ambulance and took him to hospital.
He was released from psych ward a day later with some phone numbers and nothing much else changed after.
So, you could call 000 to get admitted if youre not coping oe juat present yourself at emergency department. sorry i dont hold much hope it will solve everythings, but if you havent tried it, its worth a shot and you could find out your options for an extended stay somewhere. Or if its not urgent, talk to your psychologist next time, they should know all about any other resources available.

Alternatively, look into a retreat or a group adventure holiday. A big adventure, change in scenery people lifestyle and active levels changed my course in life.
