Glucose tolerance test at 10 weeks

Glucose tolerance test at 10 weeks

Just wondering if any other mums had to have an early glucose tolerance test done, i had to have one today at 10 weeks pregnant. I threw the drink up within 5 minutes of drinking it (still suffer morning sickness) and have to redo the test in 2 weeks time, putting me at 12 weeks along. I did not have GD with my previous pregnancy and tested at the normal 24-28 weeks timeframe, the only reason i was told as to why i had to have it done so early was because of my bmi...im size 12-14 at 158cm, im slightly overweight but nothing that would ring alarm bells in my opinion

That's very strange! I had to have the test at 16 weeks and 28 weeks because of family history of GD (my sister had it). I also have a high bmi (much higher than yours). 10 weeks seems wayyyyy too early. If I was you I would just not do the test until you feel better, which hopefully is around 16 weeks. Waiting a few weeks longer that early on in the pregnancy is not going to hurt you or the baby. Honestly. Just try to cut down on sugar and bread in the meantime.

I've never had to do one before 20 weeks. I guess they're trying to be safe.

I had to have mine done early and a second one done at the usual time. This was due to medication that I was on. All I can say is trust your doctors know what they are doing.

This pregnancy I had to do one at 20 weeks and that was only because I mentioned being thirsty a lot.. Seems very early on in the pregnancy to be testing you!

I would agree your dr will know what theyre doing and definitely know more than anonymous strangers on the internet. But dont trust them blindly, ask questions and make sure you know and discuss your options.

If you are over weight, some doctors like to do as a precaution.
I had to do 3 gtt.
And early one around 12 weeks- pathologist stuffed it up. Had to do it again at 18 weeks, then the 28 weeks.
Some doctors just like to be safe.
I had perfect levels, (like my first pregnancy, but because I'm fat, they made me do it early. Perfect blood pressure too. So only the weight was the determining factor).

I have had just had to have one at 5 weeks. It's because I'm 100kgs. No gd in previous pregnancy either. It's horrible.
