I have a horrid smile :(

Hi out there....I have a question that is highly embarrassing to me.

I have the most horrid teeth. This is a result of severe self neglect over 2 years due to mental/physical health issues which I am only just now about to see a Dr about.

I am extremely self conscious of my teeth. No pics of me grinning anywhere from the last few years. I am terrified of being judged by the only dentist in our small town. I already have anxiety issues and my smile is adding to it all....it really is a viscous cycle :(

I know that it will cost lots & lots to fix (if they can be fixed) & I'm really not in a financial position to do it anyway!!

I dont know where to start or what to do!!
Any advice??

My partner had bad teeth due to neglect and lots of medication as a child. We spent thousands of dollars trying to fix them, it was all a waste of money. His teeth continued to rot and he ended up getting dentures for the top, and are maintaining his bottom teeth through Uni dentists, much cheaper. Also his health seemed to improve afterwards as well. My brother has bad teeth as well and I told him he needs to get his arse to the dentist he will save lots of money at the Uni dentists, you just have to be patient with the students.

First of all big hugs because I know exactly how you feel and exactly what you are going through. On top of what you said I have also had really bad expierances with dentists due to a reaction from having the needle (face fully swollen, passing out ect.) A few months ago on this page a lady was asking about getting dentures and I was suprised at the amount of ppl who had them. I googled and I googled after that and finally made the call to a dentist. Needless to say even just making the appointment I was shaking and in tears. I took a support person with me and I was wven in tears in the waiting room and ready to leave. Im glad i didnt. The dentist made me feel very comfortable through out my journey and now i have a top denture in (which does take a bit to get used to I wont lie). My advice is if you can get to a nearby town/city find a dentist that you will feel comfortable with. I think most dentist now have a loan/payment thing you can sign up for and pay them off. When you do find a good dentist and make the appointment let them know you are anxious and if they are good the will put u at ease. If you can take someone with you until you feel comfortable. And if you can have it have the gas...i refuse to have any dental work without it now. I had a filling whilst on the gas and I honestly did not feel anything and then the same when they removed all my top teeth. I have had my denture for 4 weeks now and slowly i can feel my confidence coming back. Just know you arent the only one thats been in this situation. Xoxo
