Seperation

I have recently separated from my partner so does anyone have any tips on co-parenting, budgeting, living alone etc? We have one young 18 month old daughter who we will co parent.

Living alone can be hell or it can be amazing. Personally I find it amazing. But I make the absolute most of it. I love being able to do my hobbies etc, watch what I want to watch and set the schedule. A lot depends on your attitude. I love having my son, but I also enjoy the times when I don't have him, because I can do things that aren't kid friendly.

Poster here - how do you find it financially? Do you work and have centerlink or one or the other? No judgement, just curiosity? Also, do you rent? How did you find getting a rental as a single parent?

On Centrelink payments I've never had problems getting a rental. It's taken me a bit longer than I'd have liked once, but that was in a time of very low rental vacancies and everyone was having problems, even those who earnt a lot.
Have reasonable expectations about what you can afford and you should be ok. I used to apply for places that were no more than 1/3 of total income (including rent assistance) and that was always comfortable for me.
At times I have worked and times I haven't but that had more to do with my sons unusual medical needs. I've always taken the opportunity to work when he is well enough but when his needs wouldn't allow it I lived off of benefits. We are not rich but we've always gotten by.
My advice get some kind of part time work at least. The longer you leave it the harder it is to get in the work force and leaving it to you get switched to Newstart is not ideal at all.
