My son is a very messy eater. In the fact he gets easily distracted or plays around. Food tumbles from his spoon and ends up all over his hands, clothes and face because he either gets distracted and looks around or decides it's a good time to jump around in his chair :/ is this normal for a 5 year old? It's getting frustrating. EDIT! He is learning to cut with a knife and fork pretty well just otherwise a messy eater.

Hi, my son is 5 and sits at table and eats with knife and fork and eats properly. I still cut his food to bite size but he picks it up with fork or cuts it smaller if he wants and eats without a mess.
All kids are different though so I wouldn't be worried if it's just dinner he mucks around at
My daughter as like this at 3 to 4. Made me mad the mess and spills every single time. Insane.
Shes good now. Still on rare occasions mucks around or moves around distracted talking and something spills. But she knows now and remembers she should have been sitting still and jumps back.
Depends what they are eating! If it's something easy to stab with a fork no problems, if it's something like rice or mince etc it gets messy.
That sounds exactly like my 5yr old
