Positive pregnancy test. What now?

Hello ladies, I've just done a pregnancy test and it's positive (woo hoo). Would love to know what I do now? Do I see a doctor who will refer me to see an obstetrician?
I'm in Cairns so names would be handy.

Any advice would be welcomed and appreciated.

Thank you x

Congrats! Go to your GP firstly. They will do a bunch of bloods, check your diet, supplements etc and discuss your options re public vs private. I think I had my first apt with the obstetrician round the 9 week mark.

First off...congratulations!!!!!! So yep go to your GP, she will do a blood test to confirm and see how far along you are and organise a dating scan/ultrasound to work out youre due date. Usually you would just go through your GP for the first 3 months as its not usually til around 16weeks that you go through the hospital for appointments with a midwife/ob (well at my local hospitals at least!). All the best hun. Xx

Congratulations!
I am in the same boat as you, I found out I am pregnant on the 19th. I went to my doctor on the 22nd and my doctor told me I was only around 3 weeks (wasn't even due for my period till Friday just gone) and told me to go back in 2 weeks for blood tests and wait 6-7 weeks for an ultrasound. Unfortunately my doctor wasn't too helpful.

I'd start with the doctor and go get some blood tests and go from there. The blood test will give an estimate of how far along you are and send you for an ultrasound around 8 weeks... well that's how it used to work lol.

Good luck xo

Are you going public or private? I just had a baby in the public system in Cairns and went through the midwife program where you get a midwife the whole time. It's in certain suburbs and your gp needs to refer you asap to ensure you get a place. I'd highly recommend it. Feel free to message me back and I'll give you my phone number if you want to chat.

If you want to go private and have lots of money go Dr Natalie Kiesey-Calding. If you have less money but still private go Dr Tom Wright.

Conhratulations. Make an appointment with your GP who will confirm your pregnancy and find out roughly how far along you are (blood test referal). You will most likely only see your GP for the the first 15 or so weeks, then your appointments at the hospital will begin. Good luck :-)
