I have been contacted by Child Support regarding the significant debt owed to me by my ex. Apparently, because of the amount now owing, they are now transferring it to the litigation team and (in their words) going to take further steps to attempt to recover the amount owed. She couldn't give me a lot of information but said pretty much they will take him to court in an attempt to recover it. As we have very minimal to do with each other, I was unable to give much information in regards to him or his current situation. He hasn't done a tax return now for a number of years and whilst they were garnishing his wages last year for a while, he has fallen off the radar again so this is not possible. I'm expecting that there will be backlash from him when they contact and it serve him but this is totally their doing and decision. While I understand this isn't a guarantee of receiving the amount owed and if I do it could be a very long process, has anyone else had their debt owed or owing been taken down this avenue? Were they given a chance to pay before being taken to court? What was the outcome, how long did it take etc?

I'm 30, my dad owes my mum child support from when I was a kid. It was around 50grand a few years ago. They're still chasing him and he's still dodging it. I've had nothing to do with him since my gramps funeral almost 4 years ago when he told me he had something to ask me. Then proceeded to tell me I had to ask my mum to tell child support to stop asking him for the money. I lost my shit at him and told him to fuck off. Told him he had no idea what it cost to raise me and that he was an arsehole for making me miss out all those years ago. I can't say it will work in your favour but I will say good luck!! Wishing you all the best.
They give them heaps of chances to make a payment plan. They give them a chance to put in tax returns so that any return money can be garnered.
I am the poster- sadly he hasn't done a tax return for a number of years, and has fallen off the work radar as well. They were garnishing his wages when they could find him.
Same thing happened to me, I got a lump some payment when my son was 20 :)
