Another bad mum moment. Should i keep going with the lies or just give up and tell the truth.

Hi sisters. My son is 7 turning 8 in a couple of weeks. Yesterday he went to the dentist and got a tooth removed. My son is not really into using his imagination and is starting to question everything like the tooth fairy, santa etc etc. Well once again the tooth fairy forgot. This is the second time now and i am having to try and make excuses for why she did not come. I have written him a letter saying she was really busy last night but he also wrote her a letter asking if she is still real. I feel so bad and im finding it hard each year to keep up with all the lies. As he gets older the more he questions it. Do i just give up and tell him the truth or keep going. Im sure alot of mums on here have gone through this. It would be so much easier to tell him the truth. What age did you tell your kids the truth?

Oh dear I don't think there is a single parent in the world who hasn't gone through this at some point.
It's not bad mum, it's real mum!
They start to put 2 and 2 together no matter what, wether it's from playground gossip, one kid getting way more money than another, it all starts to unravel.
The way I handled it, and my mum handled it with us is that we pretend because we enjoy pretending and we don't want to ruin it for anyone else. But most kids guess WAY before parents own up. So it's up to you how long you keep going for. But I'd emphasise it's not nice to ruin it for those that do believe.

If you believe its real. Then they say they believe as long as they want the magic.

I've never actually broken it to my son. Back when he questioned the Tooth Fairy, Santa and the Easter Bunny I said this, "whether or not you believe is entirely up to you but as an adult it is my duty to inform them when you tell me you no longer believe and at that point they stop coming". Damn smart kid is 18 now, he never did come out and say he doesn't believe, he pretends for me so he keeps getting the extra presents lol.

Santa came to me well into my teens, we never really had the conversation and never came out lol
