Hi all just a question about foster care. So at the beginning of this year we had two kids come live with us cause their mum decided she couldn't look after them due to her mental health and none of her family wanted to look after them so we agreed to. We are fully committed to having them with us until they are old enough to go off to Uni, have their own place or whatever they want to do. My question is has anyone gotten DOCS payments for kids that weren't removed by them but can't go home? We are really struggling financially as my husband has been out of work all year and we get no help from their mum so Docs pay would help immensely. Does anyone have any advice?
Thanks :)

I don't think it works that way. You took on kids that aren't in the system and now you want money for them. Are you getting Centrelink payments for them or is the mum still receiving payments for them? If not that is your first step. You'll need to get there mum and dad to sign them into your care. If not you will have to apply to be a foster carer and then give the children back to there mum so she can go through the appropriate channels and they can be put into the foster care system. Which means they will need to have welfare checks, your home will have to be checked etc. Not having gone through proper channels could backfire on you.
