Child support income

Child support income

Last year my daughters bio father paid child support based on his $40K - mine at $20K. He did his tax return and actually earned $70K. So this years payment amount has changed.

They generally use your taxable income from the previous year as most peoples dont chamge by much. But my income has changed a lot this year as i have gone back full time work - I know I am supposed to call to update mine because its gone up by more than 15% (its doubled to $45K). So I dont get over paid.

My question is - does no one tell the payer the same thing??? ! why did he not have to call and update his last year?!! His nearly doubled!! turns out he had finished uni and had the better job for nearly the whole year!!!

If I call him out on it - does he get in trouble? Does have to back pay?
I bet he doesnt. :-/

I really wish it wasn't about the money. But he has seen her twice in nearly 7 years. His choice. The least he could do is pay the right amount of child support.

I almost dont want to call and change mine just so he can for once pay something that can actually contribute to the raising of his child (it is actually going straight to an account in her name to save it for when she is older). And I will deal with being over paid next year.

They are told, doesn't mean they listen though!
Your income will have zero impact on how much he pays unless you suddenly earnt BIG money or you shared 50/50 care. So not reporting wouldn't achieve anything.

You still needs to do the right thing. When he does his tax you will get it. And he could still have a debt to still pay. He can estimate whatever but once tax is done it is noticed and corrected.

he does have to call just as you do. when they calculate and adjust the child support for the next year if any money is owed to you for backpay you will get it.
its very hypocritical to say he did not report - when you didnt.
unless care % changes or you earn over $100,000 your income does not change what he pays.
