Step parent adoption

Please read carefully before offering advise...

My DH is looking at adopting my Child as he has been in the child's life from a very young age and to my child and everyone else he is my child's Dad and will always be my child's Dad...

We will have no issues with the process, as there is a good enough reason as to why the biological fathers rights will be completely removed.

I'm just after insight on how the process starts from people who have been through it and what I need and how long it will take and the costs involved so I can start saving...

So do you have to go through the court process to have the parents rights removed or had that already happened?

If you are yet to do that then unless the bio father signs to say he's happy for dad to adopt then it will unfortunately be quite costly. You're probably best off getting legal advice on this to see exactly how much the solicitor thinks it will cost to go to court and have parental rights from bio dad if it's possible.

I'm not concerned about the cost to be able to cut all ties with my child's biological father, as my child's safety and happiness in life is more important.

I read up on the adoption process that they move all rights during it...

Once we have some money ready we will definitely be seeking legal advise to get the ball rolling ?

Definitely will need to speak to a lawyer as while you say there is a good enough reason why the bio fathers rights would be taken away i have seen a family friends adoption application thrown out because the bio father would not sign his rights away even though he was in jail for sexually molesting the child. He was not allowed to see the child or have any contact but he still got a say over the step father adopting the child. Good luck x

Hopefully he finds it in the best interest of my child then as he will never get to see the child ever again anyway...one can only hope
If not I'll just have to do the name change instead ?
Thanks for the advice ?
