My 10 year old has, in the last month, developed a crazy fear of the darkness. He will nit sleep in his own bedroom, or if he does he has 3 lamps/ night lights on. This is a totally new thing. He was perfectly fine one night -then the next he was crying uncontrollably talking about seeing and hearing things in his room. School is challenging of late for him, and im not sure if he is catastrophysing about everything and anything, to try to get out of school or something. Has anyone had this happen with their kids? Im at the end of my tether and dont know what to do.

My son was like this around 9-10, some of his friends were as well as i found out later. He would only sleep with the light on, or come into our room and sleep on the floor.
He's much better now, but does like to have his radio on quietly while he goes to sleep.
I believe it's pretty normal for this age.
Does he have a
Sibling he can share a room or sleep with? I don't think it's that big of a deal, as long as you are sure there no underlying issue (ie. Nothing has happened to him that has brought on a fear of the dark). My brother and I were scaredy cats! That alon with just being super close meant we slept in that same bed until we were like almost 12years old! And even then we shared a room! Don't worry, it won't last forever! My brother and I were in separate rooms by the time I was 13 and that's the way we liked it! It really just was a comfort thing and we were lucky enough to have parents who were happy for us to just grow out of it otherwise I think it would have been traumatic!
