I have decided it's time to start putting my family first and whilst it's an expense I probably can't afford, I think we need to have it. So after recommendations for:
1. Health Care - large family and need to know hat extra's I should add on. Who is everyone with
2. Funeral cover - again who does everyone use.
Thank you

Can I ask why you feel you need Private Health insurance? Do you earn over $90k single or $180k combined (tax concerns)? Are there conditions or issues you're concerned about in your family? Honestly, it's probably not an expense that's worth it. The insurance only covers so much, and you still have a gap payment if and when you use it. Medicare covers just about everything through the public system, even elective surgery.
Funeral cover, again, is there no other option for your family than insurance? Do you have superannuation? Does that include insurance?
Would it not be better to perhaps set up a savings account for a "rainy day", especially if it's not an expense that you can afford, it's a bit of a waste IMO.
Skip funeral insurance, unless you die soon it's going to cost more in the long run. If just put money in an account for funeral.
I do have private insurance but it's not a must have. I am a nurse and I have worked in both and would feel safer in a public hospital. If you have a major accident or are very unwell you will be in public and most of the time children end up in public. To me the only benefit is skipping waiting lists
I took out extras with bupa 2 weeks ago because medicare does not cover optical dental physio or chiro plus i have a child with some mental health concerns and you only get 10 visits a year with medicare. We only got extras because i will go public for anything else plus the kids hospital is public anyway. We pay 91.50 a month and get 60% back of what we pay (unless you go to a no gap place) i honestly belive its a good investment especially for our family because we are not entitled to any gov help with healthcare cards or anything so we dont get free kids dental and i havent been dentist ib atleast 6 years
