Working visa in Japan with small child?

Has anyone gone on a working holiday or temporarily moved to work in Japan? Can you tell me about it? Process, expenses (roughly), red tape, conditions etc. Or point me in the right direction? Im searching online but finding only minimal info. Ill be contacting the Dept. Of Immigration to find out info too.
We also have a 2 year old. Has anyone moved overseas with a small child? What did you do to help them transition? Any advise?
