Hi Imperfect Mums, I am looking for other mums who have been through the same situation.
My DS is 13 months old and still cant sit, he will fall to the side as soon as I let go of him. He can drag himself around using 1 arm but he doesn't move the other arm until it is right under his belly. We try to stand him up but his feet are always tense and his toes are curled under and he seems unable to support his weight. DS only says one word which his sisters name (not an easy name to say). Mentally he still seems like a 7 or 8 month old.
I feel there is something wrong with him but we have seen numerous doctors about this but none seem concerned.
Should I keep fighting for answers or just wait a little longer to see if he will hit these milestones on his own?
TIA xxx

It's crazy that no doctors are concerned! My sister had the same problem with her son. He is very behind for his age. He is almost 2 and still cannot walk. She went to the doctors about it and I believe they referred her to physio and speech therapy. Ever since then, he has progressed so well. However, since going to these classes, they have found him to be autistic. They don't know to what degree, as he is still quite young. I am NOT saying this is the case for your son, I am just telling you the result in this case. Go to a different doctor, ask to be referred to physio and speech therapy!
P.s my son was sitting up at 5 months old, and saying a few words, so he definitely should be a bit further along than where he is now. Good luck! I'll pray for the best outcome x
I think its time to see a pedeatrician. No major cause of alarm, but as a mum you should trust your instinct
I would insist on a pediatricians appointment. Although he may catch up, some kids do, not all do and if you feel something is going on you are probably correct.
Definitely keep fighting for answers - he might just catch up in his own time but I would expect a 13 mo to at least be able to get himself into a sitting position, sit unsupported and crawl. Walking can happen anytime up to about 2 years of age and be considered "normal" and I think words can take a little longer.
I would push for assessment by a paed. There might be nothing wrong but better to intervene early if there is :)
MAJOR ALARM BELLS. Seek doctors advice now. request and MRI. Using only one arm and not walking, crawling or sitting. Sound like Cerebal Palsy - Hemiplegia to me. These are the exact same signs that my child had with hemiplegia. He had a stroke and diagnosed with MRI at 8 months old when he wasn't sitting or reaching his milestones. If you can't find a paediatrician that will listen to you ask your GP to give you a referral to the developmental area of the children hospital. And ask your GP to give you a referal for MRI. Don't listen to people that tell you my child did this late etc etc. Take action now. Get proper diagnosis and early intervention is best. Good luck. Don't sit back and wait, that is the worst thing you can do. Take action now. If you want you can even go to emergency at children hospital and demand he be seen and appropriate referrals to be made to the correct department. Don't leave until you get answers.
