Possible tourettes

Hi Im's,
Ive been a long time reader but this is my first time posting.
Im a mum to 3 gorgeous kids. 10 yr old ds, 4 yr old dd, 2 yr old ds.
My hubby has noticed over the last few years little "ticks" my 10 year old has (not bio father) at first i thought hubby was just nit picking at his behaviour which was typical 5-7yr old kiddy behaviour but recently i myself have noticed a whole lot of new movements my ds has started doing. Including some of things hubby picked up on in the early years of our relationship. I ended up videoing ds one night when he had his friend sleep over as his movements got really bad and constant.
I believe my son has tourettes (have already taken him to the gp and got the referral to the hospital). Im gutted for him because i know kids these days are ruthless when someone is different and my son is already quite a sensitive young man who doesnt cope with confrontation.
Ive been trying to educate myself on the different kind of ticks there are. And tourettes syndrome itself so when we get the diagnosis i can answer any questions my son does have. But everytime i read up on the subject or watch YouTube videos i find myself highly emotional and wishing i could take this from him instead.
Has anybody in qld more townsville area that have been through the diagnosis process? How long did it roughly take? And are there any support groups in the area?

Thanks an IM who is an emotional wreck and looking for support.

I have a friend with a child with Tourette's and my son has ASD. Take a big breath. Kids are not meaner than they used to be, in fact because they are exposed to difference from an early age they are far more accepting than adults!
Your son is still the same child wether he has a diagnosis or not. There are some awesome role models around with Tourette's. A woman with Tourette's just recently competed in American Ninja Warrior. A young man just competed on a talent show on TV in Australia as a singer.
Classrooms and schools are full of kids who have differences, glasses, autism, dyslexia, ADHD, wheelchairs etc.
The children already know your son and if he does qualify for a diagnosis his friends will accept him and like him for who he is anyway.

dont be so quick to diagnose him with tourettes, my son and my friends son both have "ticks" my sons started in prep and he still gets them in year5..... what started as eye rolling now ranges from a whole variety of different things he does as his ticks, some times they go away completely and then come back some times will make a slight appearance or not as severe and sometimes come back with a vengeance and happen constantly and noticeably, ticks can be common in kids this age and usually go away on they're own as they get older, i completely understand ur heart break as I feel like that too, but definitely see are good pead they will be able to tell you if what he is doing is a tick a habit or some kind of disorder like tourettes. we saw many Peads and a childrens physiologist all who say he doesn't have tourettes or any disorders he just ticks, and overtime we as his parents have been able to tell what sets them off etc {emotional situations/stress/etc} all the best of luck to you and your boy, xxx
