Mothers

Are anyone else's mums obsessed with making things last longer then they can? Mine got me into buying clothes a little too big for my son so they lasted longer since birth. Like not like huge but like a size bigger. Makes sense you know because then he doesn't grow out of all his clothes at once and children grow quick. Well since last winter he has grown two sizes in tops/jackets and three sizes In pants. He doesn't fit in most of his winter clothes as he even grew out of the larger size and will soon be out of fives as well. I've had to organise three sizes into a piles for sale. It's huge and my mum thinks I'm throwing out all his clothes. That they must still be wearable. I'm like I'm not having him in tiny clothes that won't keep him warm when he plays and jumps around. It's like she doesn't expect a boy to grow and yet she had one she had to buy a new pair of shoes for every term coz of growth. Is it just my mum? It sometimes gets really annoying. What do your mums do that have you squealing ?

In our grandparents generation clothing was a lot dearer compared to income. They had to make a dollar spread really far! They lived through wars/depression So yeah often our parents as kids did wear clothes way to small and that fear of spending money was passed from your grandparent to your parent. My dad spent his early years living in slums in England (shared 1 toilet with multiple apartments etc) so wearing clothes that are too small really seems not a big deal to them. As our parents get older those childhood fears resurface. So although my mum does it, it doesn't really bother me, because I've found out so much about my parents life and story and glad I've never had to go through what they have had to go through.

Yeah I get that my mum didn't have a lot growing up so she often hangs on to things she doesn't need to or won't use. I see the look on her face if you mention sell garage sale or donate. She hates donating. I often have to hide stuff and pretend it's not a give away bag or she grabs it and it like don't you like this? This will fit you when you loose weight :/ I guess I understand more now though

I do this now they are older and mum has always done it when she brought clothes for them when younger but TBH until they hit size 4-5 I'd never brought my children clothes I had about 9 garbage of clothes from 3 families. A family of 4 girls and 2 families with a set of female twins each and I had 3 girls so I was laughing, alot of it was good denim and pumpkin patch. They were literally preschoolers before I needed anything.
