I am looking for some advice!!
My 9yr old has just been diagnosed as on the autism spectrum, as well as already having adhd..
We have gotton all reports back and now have to wait over 8wks till we see the pead again.. But I dont want to sit around waiting anymore, we can't.. We are exhausted and we need help..
But I dont know where to even begin?
Is it going to be harder for us to get help because he is older? I know we are going to have to pay out alot for appointments, but are we going to be able to get on a care plan to get some money back from medicare?
How do I even begin to help him understand whats going on?
Where do I even begin?
Thanks for any advice x
Where do I begin???

A lot depends on where you live. I would Google the NDIS to see if he is in the age group in your state. What funding assistance he gets will depend on what his specific needs are so best to discuss that with peaditrician.
I think he is too old for the helping children with autism package but worth a Google.
I would also look at the Autism Awareness Australia Website, totally loaded with info. If you can get your hands on the Australian Autism Handbook that might give you some pointers too.
You will be able to apply for carers allowance (approx $120 a fortnight from Centrelink).
he will actually be able to get assistance through primary and high school for a teachers aid even just with an ADHD diagnosis, I can't comment as to Austism as needs vary wildly also. and the programs and funding vary widely by region.
Anxiety and ADHD you can get funding through Ed dept for help in school and class and PBS covers the meds, even more so if he qualifies for a health care card which I can't comment on, I am a pensioner so haven't had to worry about getting my kids one although I might have too soon I am not sure at what age that cuts off.
