Screen time

In all honesty, how much screen time do your kids get?

My kids aged 8 and 12 have to earn their technology/tv time. For every job they do they get 10 mins, this goes onto a chart we keep on the fridge. Of a school day they can use a maximum of 30mins of their time on a weekend they can use it to 1 hour and a 1/2 if they have the time built up but not all in one go. Then they get a movie Friday and Saturday nights too as an extra

In all honesty- as much as they want.

The tv always seems to be on, even when noone is watching it.
And they are free to play their devices unless there is stuff to be done or homework. I know its shitty but jeez its a good way to get peace.
Not exactly the way i set out to mother, but hey sometimes shit happens. And i try not to beat myself up about it too much

We don't do tv...zip nada...but we do do laptops computers and phones...

they are high schoolers they have a disgusting amount of screen time but the truth is most of it is reading, audio books, text books, Music, Youtube for projects class material shows they love, netflix Computer games some educational some not some spatial puzzles.

I think more importantly we need to look at the quality of screen time. it is honestly near impossible to reduce their screen time at this point without the removal being detrimental to their education.

they aren't couch potatoes all of their screen time is interactive and responsive in one way or another

Not at school we have cartoons an hour in the morning, a movie in the afternoon and cartoons or a movie at night after dinner. If were going out or coming in early we wont, but normally a couple of hours a day. A few hours playing inside an hour or two out and about and the majority playing outside. Me though, lots more.

To be completely honest... alot. My 6yo loves his xbox, movies cartoons. He is at school learning from 7am-3pm 5 days a week (he goes to before school care because I work) so I pretty much let him do whatever he wants to do when he gets home from school, which is usually tv or xbox. He has a bike, he rides it often, but not all kids are "outdoor" kids and mine prefers to be indoors! So be it. He is also very smart which his teachers have put down to what hes learned from tv believe it or not
