Only once did I tackle the back to school shopping. Sure it was cheaper but OMG, the people, the running around from place to place, the having to order what I couldn't find - nope, never again. Our local newsagent did my BTS lists for primary school and a big store in the city recommended by the college my son attended did the list for secondary school.
I go with the schools book list I have a bad habit of simply ordering EVERYTHING needed for their assigned classes.
Saves me grief and headaches....
I then usually grab some spare visual art diaries and 98PG exercise books from coles they can either use for themselves through the year or top up their school supply if an item gets lost. Every year they usually get a full fresh stationary allotment their old stuff gets sorted into the household stationary...and I usually buy a BOX of lead pencils because those things run off with the pixies for our stationary drawer a year.
If it helps, because the school has the same newsagent do the booklists each year I have an annual layby with them. I pay it off through the year with a weekly payment and anything over goes starts off next year's layby.
