Improving credit

Hi all :)

I've finally checked out my credit rating and have 2 outstanding debts (which will be cleared late next year) to telstra (under $1000) which I have made a payment plan with to pay off.
I'd now like to know how to get a good credit rating?
My bills aren't in my name (still in my exs but I pay them) and I'm worried about applying for credit etc and being rejected and having that on my record too.
I have seen a financial advisor and she suggested applying for credit but I didn't ask who through.
So are there any credit cards or other credit companies I can apply to that will accept me?
I am a centrelink recipient and also do a little bit of cash in hand work.

Getting the bills in your name and paying on time can improve your credit rating. You no longer have to have credit in order to get a good credit rating. Just paying gas/electricity/phone will do that and getting the current debts cleared.

How did you find out your credit rating? I need to do the same.

You can do it for free through Veda or Dunn and Bradstreet, I done mine through Veda last year and was quite happy as it only took about a week to have it emailed to me but have since heard it can be separated, so only some reported on Veda while some is reported on Dunn and Bradstreet so it's probably best to get both just to be sure

I got it through Veda. Just go to their website :)

I would write to Veda and ask them to remove the listings. An excuse I used was I changed addresses and they never notified me of my final bill. I have got 2 marks removed from my name doing this which has improved my credit score.
