4 month old - unsettled, fights sleep

Help! My 4 month old has been unsettled pretty much since he was born. Apart from one week (last week) he's been really difficult to get to sleep, screaming for 15+ mins minimum every time we put him down and only sleeping for 45min naps in the day. I've tried everything; watching for tired signs, putting him down early, drowsy but awake, a gentle daily routine, patting & ssshhing, a bedtime routine etc etc and nothing works. At the moment I'm feeding him to sleep lying down and then I sneak away, letting him sleep in our bed or my partner rocks him to sleep but that takes about 30min to work, all the time baby is protesting. He's in our bed at night because it's the only way I can get some sleep. I've given up dairy and wheat and that seemed to make a difference initially (last week) but not anymore. I'm at the end of my tether, it's really starting to take its toll. Aside from going to tresillian, does anyone have any suggestions? I'm not prepared to do controlled crying. Thanks in advance.

Omg I could have written this myself only a few months ago. I know exactly how you feel. Have you tried starting him on solids. I found my daughter hungry. I started a bedtime routine of a bath with bedtime bath, then massage a bit of bedtime massage lotion on to her. Then bottle. Then bed. I gave her solids at about 5.30. As for during the day omg I wish to god she would sleep more than 10mins..and no I am not kidding. As for fighting omfg she would get to the point where she was overtired and used to have to walk around the house rocking her to sleep. Since she has started on solids its been a lot better ahe has been sleeping through the night but she would still fight going to sleep. A few weeks ago when shewas almost 6 months i started her on 2 solid feeds a day and a completely different baby. She still only has about 10mins at a time but she doesnt fight sleep which was our biggest problem. Good luck mumma I truly feel your pain and know exactly how you feel xoxo

Feed him some solids, just a little bit to start. Mr 5 mths was exactly the same, right down to the feeding laying on my bed. He's started so kids and is sleeping nearly all the way through and 3 hr nap during the day!
