Reminds me of Münchhausen's

There's an regular acquaintance my husband and I catch up with and she's always got a major woe is me story. And a lot of the stories that she's telling us we find out later are fictious or heavily exaggerated. She reminds me of that Münchhausen's Syndrome where they seek attention via medical illness etc.

Biggest concern is the way she's been going about trying for children. She claims to have PCOS and has fertility issues if that's true or not I'm unsure. But she takes the heaviest pill possible she claims to assist with acne.
The concern is that instead of going off the pill for awhile and then trying, she's actually coming off the pill and falling pregnant within the 1st month.
Her reasoning is that it's the only way she knows she can ovulate. She miscarried the first time, then had a phantom pregancy the 2nd and then fell pregnant the 3rd time.
Her Bub was born early and has a heart condition I do feel for them. But I can't help but think that her strategy for getting pregnant has caused all of the above. Ive read that the pill inhibits the absorbion of some nutrients to Bub.
Not sure how to respond when she starts going on how nothing works out for her and that the world is against her. What do I say when I know she's making stories up for attention?

Just nod, and change the topic.

I came off the pill and fell pregnant in the first month (to our surprise). Didn't realize it was an issue. My daughter is perfectly healthy. In regards to the Munchausens, not a lot you can do unfortunately :( people with this mental health issue tend to recover extremely slowly, if at all. I'm a nurse and I've dealt with this before, best thing to do is not get involved in the stories. Just say something like "that sounds awful." Then just change the subject. If she insists on talking about it, just be uninterested and don't engage until she drops it.

Fact is, you really don't know why her son has a heart condition. You can assume til the cows come home, but you really have no idea. There are people out there who drives us NUTS.... you either let them get to you or you just be friendly and carry on with your day. I suggest doing the latter.
