Don't be complacent

Mortifying declaration of mum of the year moment but I felt I should share for awareness.

Teen asked for a swim in the pool and given he's nearly 14 I decided he'd be fine and I didn't need to sit and watch. Unbeknown to me he'd flipped off a pool floatie and split his head open on a rock on the side of the pool.

Thankfully he didn't knock himself out and I heard his cry but 'what could have happened' was a big reminder that no matter the age there should always be another person around when in the pool.

I became complacent with pool safety because I knew he could swim. Lesson learnt.

Yep. The older they get the more adventurous :) Even at 18 mine weren't allowed in pool unless someone else was home and in vision/earshot. I was lucky they 'got' it as we'd had a visiting child years before nearly drown and one of ours do exactly what yours did - and they remembered. Thank goodness he was ok. Don't beat yourself up - it's a great reminder for you and the kids :)
