Looking for some inspiration for my daughters lunch box next year when she starts prep. She picked out a groovy little insulated lunch bag from kmart for 10 bucks that comes with lots of little storage containers and bags inside which I thought was super cool. Now I'm not the mum who bakes :-p but my kids eat lots of good clean foods. Now all I can think of is a sandwich, a piece of fruit and a mini salad (spinach, cheese, cucumber, carrot ect.) and maybe some yogurt and cookie, popcorn, or muesli bar for a treat but I worry this isn't enough? She's not a big girl, probably smaller than average if anything but I swear she's eats 50 times more than this when she's at home with me lol.

Do a test lunch prior to school starting and see how she goes. Have the set lunch breaks and don't allow anything inbetween, treat the day just like a school day. Last year my daughter was in prep and they had a munch and crunch (fruit/veg only) at 9.40am, first break around 11am and second break around 1pm.
I'm a mum who loves to bake so I do a big batch on weekend (prob every 2nd/3rd weekend) and freeze for school lunches, things like berry muffins, anzac slice as lunch box treats. These aren't everyday lunch box items tho) I've also switched for coconut oil instead of butter and decreased the sugar in a lot of my recipes.
My preppies typical lunch box consisted of, a piece of fruit for munch/crunch, a sandwich for first break. 2nd break was and another piece of fruit and either cheese/crackers, a baked good or homemade popcorn. She's not a huge eater tho.
Maybe if your daughter likes hummus you could do carrot/celery sticks to go with that. I've also made some apricot balls (not the condensed milk kind) and they were a hit, but I've been a bit slack with that as I don't have apricots in the house much.
If you are on Facebook at all I'd recommend lunchbox ideas Australia and lunchbox ideas for kids. Both very good pages you can join and plenty of inspiration. Just choose options that you find easy : )
1-2 pieces of fruit and a sandwich....thats it..
If you give them anything more they dont eat it...it gets binned or left in the lunch box to rot.
Yes they eat more at home they have all day to eat at home...they will empty the fridge for afternoon tea as soon as they get home. They have only 5-10 minutes to eat at recess and lunch in a supervised area where they are made to sit and a bin provided (to stop them litering the yard) before they pack it up and get sent out to play...fruit is mobile and doesnt have a wrapper...and it doesnt have a box which they need to get access to the room to put back in their bag.
