Hi IMs,
About 4 years ago, my husband injured his back at his work and has not worked since. He had worked in manual labour jobs (shop fitting labourer, picker/packer) for almost 15 years and was always a hard worker who just wanted to work with his hands. He left school when he was 15, so has no formal qualifications, and would have been happy to continue doing manual labour.
Due to the nature of his injury, he can no longer do really physical work, or repetitive lifting/bending. He has been trying to find work for the last couple of years but because he is restricted, mature age (33), lacking in formal quals (other than a forklift licence), no one seems interested in employing him despite the fact that he just wants to work and commit himself to a company.
We have a 3 year old son and a second son due in February, so the need for a second income is greater than ever. We have really struggled through the last few years, and desperately need him to get work. Does anyone have any suggestions for what/who he could look into who would be willing to employ someone based on work ethic and willingness to learn, and see past the other "limitations"? He is a good man who just wants to provide for his family.
Thanks in advance ?

He's probably going to have to suck it up and retrain sadly. If he could do manual labour he would get a job like that. Unfortunately though most industries require qualifications unless its retail. TAFE and other learning environments offer loads of support to get you through your courses.
