Apraxia in toddler

My nearly 3yr old has just been diagnosed with Apraxia of speech. Just wondering if anyone's toddler has been diagnosed and how long it took them to talk normally.

My toddler was diagnosed, it depends very much on severity and wether the homework gets done. For my guy he had an extremely severe form, was totally non verbal and unable to imitate or say a single sound at diagnosis so he still struggles with normal speech as a 21 year old.
I have friends whose kids have gone on to develop normal speech within 12months to 2 years but they were already verbal, so was less severe.

Thanks for that. My daughter has close to 30 words/sounds so I wouldn't say severe. I was a bit hesitant to agree with her speech therapist when she diagnosed apraxia due to her not having many of the symptoms.

My daughter is 8 when she was 2.5yrs we started testing by 3yrs old she was diagnosed with aprexia and displexia together. She could say roughly 20words. She was immediently put into private soeech therapy. She went once a week for 3yrs it was really hard sometimes to find the extra money to cover it but it had to be done. If you live in WA your lucky their is a speech school called the language development centre it does from kindy to end of yr 2 your child can only go for a max of 3yrs and its public so fees arnt huge. They help with an intensive schooling structured around speech and language issues the classes are half the size and each class has their own speech therapist as well as teacher and aid. I wouldnt recommend public therapy. The lists are huge from being diagnosed to being offered public therapy we waited 18mths. If you can afford it find a private therapist that you like and trust and get to work. Therapy once a week isnt just going to help they will show you ways to help your child at home with games and ideas, lots of mouth excersices, tongue excersices and all sorts. Your journey is just beginning but trust me their is light at the end of the tunnel. We went through 3yrs of private therapy, and speech school countless hours teaching her how to say each and every word she knows. She is now at the end of yr 2 her first year in a main stream school and her first 12mths without therapy she doesnt know yet but tomorrow at assembly she will recieve the most improved student award of her class for the year. This is something myself and husband are extremly proud of. I wish you all the best in your journey and should you have any questions feel free to ask me.
