help my 9yo daughter to gain weight.

help my 9yo daughter to gain weight.

A small while ago I wrote in to talk about my 9yo girl being diagnosed with adhd. This last term has been great with the medication she has been on but today at her paediatric appt she was weighed and has lost 500gms since last appt. (this medication is only taken school days and is a slow release tablet she takes in the morning.) while this is ok for the average kid, my daughter is (and has been since birth) in the bottom 3% for weight. My question is any ideas or suggestions for meals or snacks that can help her. Obviously we can't eat take away every night but I need to find a way to get some extra calories into her. Thanks.

Oh I'm expert at this lol, I had to calorie load my sons meals about 12 months ago due to an illness. He looked like a starving greyhound!
Anyway I found making chocolate thick shakes really helped. I'd use full cream milk, a meal replacement like ensure, chocolate topping, ice cream and blend it all up. It tasted delicious and I was so jealous!
Bananas have a surprisingly high calorie count.

You can help a person gain weight in a healthy way. Add nut butters, olive oil, butter, avocado, whatever she likes etc to foods - this will add calories without adding too much volume.

Also maybe do a Sustagen or Ensure milkshake as a treat? Smoothies with bananas, Nutella, Milo, icecream etc?

I recommend a high fat diet, you can look up a lifestyle called LCHF (low carb High fat). My daughter has a heart problem & we struggled to get her to put on weight as she became more active. We don't eat much from a packet & we eat good fats like butter, avacado, nuts, coconut milk/butter etc. My daughter is now nearly 3 has avoided any more heart surgery & is super healthy which I attribute a lot to diet.
