Becoming a midwife as a single mummy... Can it be done successfully?

Looking for advice from midwives/ nurses or any shift workers really...

I've applied to go back to university and become a midwife. It was my dream 15 years ago but was talked into becoming a teacher instead. Since having my children however I have lost my desire to teach and have decided to follow my dream of becoming a midwife. It is a 3 year course and I am a single mummy of a 1 year old and 3 year old. They will be 4 and 6 when I finish my degree and hopefully begin working.

My question is how 'doable' is it with young children?

I think its fantastic that you want to follow your dreams. So to answer your question, I guess that would depend on your support net work, and how supportive they are. Being a midwife is a 24/7 job, if you were called at 2am "I'm heading to the hospital, its time", will you have someone to watch your little ones?
